Lake Placid

If you've got some time to spare, there are plenty of fun activities and places to explore in Lake Placid.

Hiking & Trails

Cascade Mountain

  • 6 mile hike up one of Adirondack's 46 peaks takes 5.5 hours. It is a gorgeous, challenging hike so make sure to come prepared with water and snacks. 15-20 min drive to trailhead.

Heaven Hill Trails

  • Beautiful trail in woods. Easy for all ages. 5-10 min drive from downtown.

Cobble Hill

  • The entrance is at the back of Northwood school - this is a 1 mile walk from High Peaks Resort around the Lake. It is a moderately easy hike but the end has amazing views!

Olympic Center

Herbs Brooks Arena

  • Site of the famous 1980 "Miracle on Ice" rink. If you are a hockey fan this is an awesome place to check out, and walkable from downtown.

  • While you're there sign up to Ice Skate on the Olympic Rink, right outside the venue.

Olympic Ski Jumping Complex

  • The Olympic Jumping Complex hosts different activities throughout fall including Sky Flyer Zip-lining, and a SkyRide (check website for times). You can also take an elevator ride to the observation deck of the K-120 meter jump and take a picture on the Olympic medal stand. 5-10 min drive from downtown.

Bobsled Run

  • Take an exhilarating ride on a bobsled at this former event site for the 1980 Winter Olympic Games. 15 min drive from downtown.

Rent a Boat

  • Rent a boat on Lake Placid. Placid Boat Rentals (518) 523-3219 or Captain Marneys (518) 523-9746.

Kayak and Paddle-board

  • High Peaks Resort provides kayaks, paddle-boards and other watercraft, complimentary for their guests.

Fine dining with a view. It’s elegant, romantic and decidedly not fussy – a wonderful spot for a memorable dinner in a relaxed Adirondack atmosphere.

Also known as 46 sandwiches (yes that's right, 46). Breakfast, 46 sandwiches, Crepes, Salads, Specialty Coffees, Smoothies, Craft Beer & Cocktails. Great spot for lunch.
